Everyone wants to travel the world and visit the beautiful countries, but with so many places to visit where do you start? The Buzzfeed came up with a list of the most beautiful countries in the world and Uganda takes the thirteenth(13th) spot beating the likes of Australia, Brazil , Norway, Philippines and India.
Source of the Nile
The Buzzfeed acknowledges that – Uganda “The Pearl of Africa” is incredible. Though a small country, it is the starting point of one of the most amazing rivers in the world – and its very longest – the Nile. The Amazing River Nile is the Longest river in the world and it’s source in Uganda. It is actually the Nile that opened Uganda to the European Explorers who were involved into discoveries of the 18th and 19th Century. The Source of the River Nile was later “discovered” by John Speke on his second expedition into East Africa in 1856.
Some explorers think that the River Nile is born in the ‘mountains of the moon’. These long time mountains that were even written about by Ptolemy are today known as the Rwenzoris. The Rwenzoris are some of the mountains you’ve probably never heard of but you must have to see!
The Rwenzori mountains are permanently snow capped and finding ice along the Equator is one of the best kept secret wonders of these mountains! Therefore if you are an adrenaline seeker or some one interested in extreme adventures, the Rwenzoris should not miss on your bucketlist.
Lake Victoria
The Lake Victoria has been called the most amazing lake on earth. Found in Uganda, the Lake Victoria is the world’s second largest fresh water lake. It covers an an area of 67,850 sq km and it is shared with Kenya and Tanzania. This vast expanse which is the size of the Republic of Ireland is one of the foremost attractions that you will encounter as you land at the Entebbe International Airport. Many folks consider this very spot, the natural outlet within Lake Victoria, to be the source of the Nile – the world’s longest river.
Though the Lake Victoria is still underdeveloped for tourism, there are lots of potentials that are worthy mentioning. You can enjoy a boat cruise along the lake within the areas of Kampala, Jinja, Entebbe. You can also plan a holiday at the tropical beaches of the Ssese islands, one of the most beautiful destinations in the tropics.
Incredible Wildlife
The country is one of the best wildlife viewing destinations on earth thanks in large part to the stunning Murchison Falls National Park, Kidepo Valley National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park. Uganda is one of the only three countries in the world that hosts the endangered mountain gorillas. These great apes can be seen in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park in south western Uganda.
