A total of 656 hotels and guesthouses have defaulted on the local hotel tax this year, costing Kampala Capital City Authority Shs6.1 billion in tax arrears.
Statistics from the city’s directorate of revenue collection indicate that the highest number of defaulters are in Rubaga Division where 169 hotel and guesthouse proprietors owe KCCA Shs534 million, followed by central division with 155 defaulters and a debt of Shs3.7 billion.
A total of 241 hotel proprietors in Makindye and Nakawa divisions have not met their tax obligations amounting to Shs1.5 billion while Kawempe, which has the least number of defaulters, 92, has Shs361 million in arrears.
